Design, Engineer, Construct!®
Create and inspire the next generation of Built Environment professionals with Class of Your Own® and TQUK.
Design Engineer Construct!® (DEC!) is a learning programme aimed at secondary-school students that has been expertly developed to create and inspire the next generation of Built Environment professionals.
TQUK partners with Class Of Your Own® in the delivery of these programmes of learning, which are available for delivery to schools across the world.
DEC! comprises three levels, each with recognised qualifications – Foundation Level 1, Intermediate Level 2 and Advanced Level 3, which attracts full UCAS points for university and degree.
Learners discover real-world applications of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. This leads to a whole range of exciting professional career pathways through strong industry and academic links.
How does it work?
Through a project-based approach, DEC! applies pure academic subjects to the latest construction industry practices. The result? Young people with real-world practical experience and employable skills.
There is little public understanding of Built Environment professions, and few young people aspire to a career in this vital sector of the British and global economy. DEC! schools and industry will educate and train future workforce and change the lives of young people.
Supported by industry leaders, professional bodies and progressive universities, DEC! delivers an inspiring programme that is up-to-date and in demand by the very people who will employ our children.
Young people aspire to a career in the vital Built Environment sector .
Classroom to career
The beauty of DEC learning programmes is that the skills acquired throughout the course are easily transferable to other subjects. Integral to the activities within the DEC programme are good standards for numeracy and literacy.
Each learning task contains opportunities to explore, demonstrate and develop mathematical knowledge by understanding its application to the world of work. Similarly, literacy skills are enhanced by integrated opportunities to prepare oral and written reports, presentations, feedback and other types of language-based outcomes many of which are presented to industry specialists. DEC also enables learners to explore some of the key themes that challenge society in general through particular examples and projects within the built environment sector.
Many of the students undertaking the Design Engineer Construct! programme aspire to go to university, either via the traditional full-time route or part-time via a recognised employer/apprenticeship scheme.
Class of Your Own encourage all their students to progress and work with some of the most progressive schools of engineering, architecture and the Built Environment to ensure that they are learning the most up to date syllabus in order to prepare them to hit the ground running in year one.
TQUK DEC! Qualifications

DEC! students from Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi working with world-leading experts at Broadway Malyan.
“This was my first year participating in the DEC programme and my experience working with DCSPX learners and teachers has been immensely positive. Through the DEC programme with DCSPX, students were not only exposed to practical challenges but also received valuable insights into the many career paths within the Built Environment. Witnessing the students wholeheartedly immerse themselves in the project was truly inspiring.”
